Auger Cast Piling

Where soil conditions are not so favorable and the job site is accessible, auger cast piles are both a cost efficient and effective mean of foundation piling. Knowing that the quality of the auger cast piling strongly depends on the skill and expertise of the contractor, Provencher Piers is well versed in foundation stabilization and a proven leader in the Northwest Florida area.

Auger cast pile driving is an activity or operation performed by drilling into the ground with a hollow stemmed continuous flight auger to the required depth or degree of resistance. No casing is required. A concrete mix is then pumped down the stem of the auger. While the concrete is pumped, the auger is slowly withdrawn, lifting the spoil on the flights. Reinforcing steel is then lowered into the wet concrete, and a shaft of fluid concrete is formed to ground level. Auger cast piles cause minimal disturbance and are often used for noise and environmentally sensitive sites.

Helical Piling

A Helical pile is used for the foundation of many structures, and has a screw-like lower end for drilling through and taking firm hold in compacted material. Helical piles are an easy and instant foundation solution, which can be as easily removed as they are installed making it a re-usable foundation. Piling advantages are: quick installation, custom designs, remote access capabilities, no concrete curing times which make them instantly load ready.

Used in virtually all soil conditions, helical pilings are used for stabilizing foundations and slabs built on suspect soil. With the use of screw piles and steel shafts, helical piles are screwed into the ground with hydraulic torque motors. Being very friendly in areas of tight quarters, helical pilings are also used for tieback anchoring, dead man anchoring and seismic protection.

Steel Piling

Structural steel piles have been made from structural steel shapes for over one hundred twenty-five years. They are commonly rolled steel that is formed into an “H” cross-sectional shape, “I” beams have also been used. Structural steel piles are non-displacement piles. These have an advantage of high strength-to-weight ratio, great bending resistance, ease of splicing for longer lengths and (by their nature) lower rates of solid displacement to affect adjacent areas.

Supplied in a wide range of sizes, Steel H piles can be driven to great depths and can be designed to provide high bending and tensile capacities. Steel H can be supplied with coated surfaces to cater for both ground conditions capable of inducing negative skin friction and aggressive soils. Steel H piles are easy to handle and driving does not cause large soil displacements, therefore, ground heave can be minimal, with minimum site disruption and no added expense of site clean up.

Steel Sheet Piling

Becoming one of the most highly versatile building materials for docks, bridge abutments, boating ramps, and seawalls, steel sheeting is a production assembly Provencher Piers specializes in. Sheet piling consists of a series of panels with interlocking connections, driven into the ground to form a temporary structure designed to keep water or soil out of an excavation area, or something more permanent such as a seawall.

Galvanized light gauge steel and aluminum sheet piles are gaining acceptance for lightly loaded sheeting applications, and offer the advantage of corrosion resistance in bulkhead applications. Sheet piling has been a proven technology within the construction industry for many years.

Wood Piling

Wood pilings are a time-tested foundation. Timber piles are made from the trunks of tall straight trees. The more typical species are conifers such as Southern Yellow Pine and Douglas Fir. All permanent timber piles driven in marine environments and where the butt (upper end) will be above groundwater levels require a preservative treatment to resist rot, insect and marine borer attack.

Although steel and concrete pilings are available, most builders in our area use wood pilings for homes. Provencher Piers has all the capabilities to drive wood piles in nearly all locations and conditions.
